Welcome, Welcome, Welcome!

Hello There!

Welcome to my blog, "The Possible Impossibilities". I have actually been thinking about starting a blog, and did a couple times... but now in my college class (Intro to Electronic Media) it's a requirement, so that gives me good reason to finally start/keep up with one!

Throughout the course I will be writing up media reviews on here specific to the world of Medical Missions. Personally I went to Dominican Republic in 2005 & Johannesburg, South Africa in 2007 for a short term mission trip... and the images and experiences from those trips will never leave me. It is a very different world there; medicine and every day commodities that we have hear with in arms reach just aren't in shanty towns around the world. This blog will be focusing on stories like this one found here: http://www.mercyships.org/blog/entry/abel-dalome, little & big miracles that happen for people each day!

I am hoping to one day work with Mercy Ships and organizations similar to it (going for nursing right now to hopefully get back out there as soon as possible). I love all things health & science as well, medical missions combines both passions. As a lab intern in high school, I was able to work on the other side of research with DNA from individuals diagnosed with AIDS, as well as others suffering with autoimmune disease. The knowledge I learned there will also never leave me, and gives me an urgency to somehow help and get involved.

Here is a picture from my trip to Johannesburg, South Africa:

This was their preschool, very different to say the least. I went to this shanty town around the end of July to the beginning of August 2007. I was informed at the end of my trip that the entire town would be bulldozed in October of that year. The government promised housing to all South African citizens, which is great, however takes a while. The other thing to take into consideration is that there were 22 different languages just in this town; many of the people living there were refugees from wars going on in Mozambique or other countries. Since they are not South African citizens, they will not be given housing, and will have to move somewhere else by foot, and endless cycle for many...

This gives you a taste of what I will be focusing my blog on, if you have any information or feedback, I would love to hear it as well!

Sincerely & God Bless,
Anastasia Marie

  2. Great job, I look forward to reading more! I agree, it is amazing to see what other parts of the world are like. When I was in Indonesia I couldn't get over how truly poor the country was. Thank you for being so willing to help out, the world needs more people like you.
